| I'm so single, I can't even turn my car onSo my car trouble really began about a year and a half ago. Back in January 2008, I was home for my last remaining days of Christmas Break. Occassionally, dad likes to take a look at my car making sure everything is running smoothly. After looking at the corroded wires on my battery, we decided it was way past time to get a new one. Within a few days, I had gone back to Hopkinsville but still had not bought the battery. I figured since school was starting soon, I was needed to go ahead and buy the new battery before I had some serious car problems. So I went to Auto Zone on a bitterly cold 20 degree January day hoping someone would install it for me. After purchasing an $80 battery, a decrepit older man was limping behind me to install it. As I sat in my car, he banged and clanged on the engine trying to make the battery fit. Apparently the wires weren't in the best condition. Once he was finished, I drove back to my apartment assuming my battery problems were over. A week of school had passed with no problems at all. On the 2nd Monday back, I had an exhausting day with kids so I decided to walk out early with my fellow coworker, Faye. We were expecting a snow day the next day because the meteorologist were calling for 3 inches of snow, so her and I talked about how excited we were about sleeping in. We parted ways and as I attempted to start my car, it completely died. Seriously, didn't even make a sound. I waved down Faye and told her what was going on and how I am completely clueless when it comes to cars. She ran back into the buiding and grabbed our custodian to see if he could help us out at all. He took one look at it and pretty much said, "Nope, not a clue." Since it was a cold day, we decided we didn't want to stay in the parking lot all evening while I waited for AAA to come help. Faye went ahead and drove me home and we made arrangement for her to drive me to school the next day if we were still having school. Luckily, they called around 6 that evening to inform us that school had been cancelled so I arranged for AAA to meet me at the parking lot around 12. Faye and her husband picked me up the next day and took me back to the school. When the AAA guy popped me hood (that's what she told me to do-I'm such a goon), he let me know that the guy from Auto Zone barely screwed the battery in and I was extremely lucky my car didn't stop working while I was in the middle of driving anywhere. He "fixed" the problem and I drove back on my merry way. Faye and her husband followed me back to be sure no more problems would happen. Fast foward to October (maybe it was July? I don't remember, I was at camp nevertheless) I had just spent a great weekend (or week?) at Camp Kumbaya for the young adult water weekend (or high school camp?). Some of my camp friends and I were planning to meet up at one of the restaraunts in Marshall county to spend a little more time together. I did a quick run through of the dining hall and got some more food they were giving away (October!). Meanwhile, everyone else is leaving. I finally get into my car and can you guess what happened? Yup, the car wouldn't start. I look around me and there is only one person left. I run over to her and ask if she has clue about cars. Unfortunately, she had no idea and pretty much scurried off to her car. I ran down to the lakeside because I was hoping our regional minister was packing up some more of the equipment. Luckily, he had not left yet so he took a look at my car. He attached the jumper cables to my battery and then to his car but it still was no hope. We ran over to the camp manager house and asked him if he had any idea how to deal with my car. Once again, it wasn't properly hooked. He taped and banged and anything else he could think of to make sure the battery would continue to work. Now today, my battery strikes again. Or doesn't strike, whatever you want to call it. I was craving some McDonalds and frankly just really wanted to get out of the house since I have been here all day. Yet again, nothing happens. I run in to the house to have dad take a look at my car. We spend about 45 minutes trying to jump start it and it is completely dead. However, the lights will turn on so we aren't sure if it's completely gone or not. If we can't get it to work, we are going to KMart in the morning and I am buying a new battery. I still think that the wires are the problem and possibly not the battery. Dad won't admit it but he is not the best when it comes to fixing stuff. Pretty much almost always breaks it a little more. I hate cars! | | |
| Ahh, spring break is 4 days away! So tell me why all of my best friends are going to be done with their break by the time mine begins? So unfair! Oh well, I intend on getting all of my doctors appointments taken care of that I held off for the past 2 years. Plus I want a new haircut and I think I am going to take mom out to get a pedicure since she is just chilling at the house. Speaking of mom, for those who are curious she is doing really well. We are hoping by Christmas that this "situation" will be taken care of and no longer a problem. In the meantime, I plan on working on mom and dad's anniversary party at the church. I think I am just going to invite people who have meant something to mom and dad. I do have a huge surprise though...Tim and Candice are flying in from California to be there for the party! Mom will be so excited! The weekend was pretty eventful. Friday night was Emily's birthday party which didn't turn out as well as she was hoping. To make sure she had a memorable birthday, we gave it a second shot and ate at Jasmines. Her roomie ended up bringing her a birthday cake and animal plates. Too cute. Once we had finished eating, Rachael and I met up with Neil, his sister, and her new boyfriend and went bowling. Before Rachael and I played, I decided to make a rule where if you get a gutterball, you have to do an awkward dance/your best dance move. Can you believe I was the only one who followed my rule? Good grief. Meanwhile, we look on the other side of the bowling alley and about 20 high schools kids are having their own little dance party, grinding and all. Lucky...I ended up staying the night with Rachael a second night in a row and left around 8 to get home and make mom and dad breakfast. I ended up making them blueberry yogurt muffins and piggy sausages. A great way to begin a morning might I add. After a few hours of spending time with mom, I went to the mall to meet up with Lane and her mom. Since they were taking forever at TJ Maxx( I hate that store, therefore I try to avoid going in), I went to JCPenny and bought my comforter for my big girl bed! Look at it, it's adorable! http://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?ItemID=1426a66&ItemTyp=C&GrpTyp=STY&ShowMenu=T&ShopBy=0&SearchString=bedding&RefPage=SearchDepartment.aspx&s4PageSize=15&CmCatId=searchresults&Search1Prod=True&S4Filter=N%7c0%7cNtt%7cbedding%7cNtk%7csearch_all%7cNao%7c600%7cNty%7c1%7csid%7c1204D7912B54%7cNtx%7cmode%2bmatchallpartial%7cNtpr%7c1%7cNtpc%7c1 Lane arrived at the mall around 4 and we headed over to Victoria's Secret. Amanda's personal shower is going to be on Saturday so we went ahead and bought her lingerie. Since Lane is closer in size to Amanda, she tried on the different outfits that we thought about buying her. It's a good thing Lane and I are best friends or it may have been a little awkward. I couldn't find a picture of it online but I guess that way you won't have to picture Amada wearing it. So I guess everyone wins? As far as anything exciting going on right now, that's a big negative. Just still hoping and praying that I get a job closer to home so that I can finally do something for me. | | |
| Top 5 favorite moviesSince my last blog was so depressing, I thought I would make an entry that made me smile. Anyone who knows me knows that I love movies so I have compiled a list of my top 5 all time favorite movies. There are several more that I love but these are the ones that I never get tired of watching. 5. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers I used to watch this movie all the time when I was younger and can still watch it now. There is something that fascinates me about singing and dancing boys ( another male dominated musical made the list as well). The plot ins't even that good but the cast consists of several professional dancers making it a very enjoyable film. I found a video of one of the songs I like from the movie but unfortunately couldn't find any of the dance sequences. The movie is from 1954 so keep that in mind! ( my computer wouldn't let me post the video for some reason so just click on the link if you want to watch!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vxrj-CLnbos 4. Matilda Yes, this is a movie for children but I don't care! I think it is adorable and so entertaining despite your age. I used to want to be just like Miss Honey with her cute little cottage and garden. Also, if I had a classroom full of Matildas my job would be so much easier. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ujc71mev9qc 3. Hook You thought it was going to be number 1 didn't you? Well, two others beat this one. I adore his movie. Call me immature, I don't care. I think it is too precious. This scene is probably one of my favorites from the whole movie. Shut up Rufio, you don't belong in this movie, go home. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0jVCDHE6pI 2. Newsies Alright all you Christian Bale fans, before he was Batman, he was a Newsie. A singing, dancing, cowboy hat wearing Newsie. My sister and I have watched this movie since we were little and can sing any of the songs to you. In fact, we got into a fight once because I took the movie to college my freshman year. Yes, it is that great. God, I love this movie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABo2MlYdsdU 1. When Harry Met Sally From fake orgasms to the perfect apple pie, I can never get enough of this movie. Yes, Meg Ryan's outfits are atrocious but who cares. There is quite a bit of dialogue in this movie which a few of my friends have found boring but I think it makes the movie. Anyway, it's my favorite movie! Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMo36SfyQhw | | |
| Yes I am alive...But barely. So much has happened this month that I don't even really know where to begin. Just more reasons of why I despise winter. It seems as if everything bad happens in the wintertime. I get into such a sad mood almost on the verge of being depressed. Especially in the last week...
I am not going to get into what is going on with mom not only to respect her wishes to keep it private but because I just really don't like to think about it. However, when I received the news, the first person I called was Lane. She didn't even think twice about driving down here to be a crying shoulder. Thankfully, when she got here it helped keep me stronger instead of being in hysterics like I had been earlier. We ended up reading some of my Cosmo magazines, eating cupcakes, and watching Harry Potter V. It may not seem like she did much while she was here but she kept me from crying myself to sleep. that in itself meant more to me than anything. The next morning, I tried to go to school ( I had already emailed the staff because I know that prayer is a way to heal. Don't believe it? Look at my brother, he is a miracle) but as soon as I spent some time alone, I couldn't control myself any longer. I tried to speed past the secretary and go to class but as soon as Sara saw me she ran in and gave me a hug and simply said, " Go home to your mom." That was enough to send me back to the apartment and get packed for Paducah. Mom had planned a Valentine's Day dinner for her resident so when I got home, I realized she wasn't even there. Instead, I went to her work (she works with Alzheimer patients) to help her set up tables and keep the peace with the residents. Dad came too after his work got out. I don't think I have ever seen dad's eyes that red and puffy in my life. Anyway, dad and I were the "waiters" for the residents and their families so we stayed in good spirits while we served them. One of the ladies kept telling me how beautiful I am, which was ironic to me considering how awful I looked after a solid 24 hours of crying but whatever. After a couple of hours, the dinner was coming to an end so we were ready to head on home. The next morning, I joined my parents in driving to Vanderbilt to see if they could tell us anything we didn't already know. After several hours of going from room to room, the details are still extremely vague which to me is very unsettling. If you are close to me and are interested in the details just ask and I will give you a call and tell you or something. I can not even express how hard it is to be living somewhere you hate when everything you love isn't close enough. As good as the staff and faculty have been to me with all that is going on, I can't not live in a place I don't consider home any longer. I am going to do everything that I can to get a job close to my family and friends. Though I may seem energetic and full of personality on the weekends, I am creeping closer to depression due to the weekdays. The loneliness of Hopkinsville is getting the best of me.
